Poultry sector provides employment to 1.5m people

Chairman Pakistan Poultry Association (NZ) Dr Abdul Karim has said that poultry industry is playing an important role in alleviating poverty as around 1.5 million people in the country are attached to it. In an interview, he said that neither poultry feed nor any ingredient used in poultry feed was imported.
Abdul Karim dispelled the impression that pork meat was used in the ingredients of poultry feed. He said that every ingredient of the poultry feed including maize ,rice ,fish and other particles were available in bulk quantity in the country.
Responding to a question, he refuted the allegations of using illegitimate fat or any other untested item in the feed. He said that employment of 1.5 million people in the country were related to poultry sector, adding that white meat was the only source of cheap protein.
He said that around 50 per cent poultry need was being fulfilled by poultry meat in the country. To a question, he informed that Rs750 billion had been invested in this sector in which 85 per cent feed and 100 per cent poultry processing plants had been established in Punjab.
He urged the government to pay heed towards this sector so that the trust of the farmers could be restored in poultry farming in the country. He claimed that through poultry export, the country may earn huge foreign exchange..
